Zanskar River Rafting Trip

Mentioning about our "special" yearly feature which runs for spectacular two weeks covers the most of western Ladakh, monasteries, hikes, palaces, villages and travel down three rivers. This trip starts with a flight over the Himalayas into the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In this trip we spend few days in Leh town acclimatizing at 11,000 feet above sea level and visiting the ancient monasteries, palaces and villages around Leh. After this, we drive towards the west of Leh, past the town of Kargil and travel south into the valley of Zanskar. This valley is one of the coldest inhabited places on earth. Starting the trip on the Doda river, we begin our self contained multi-day river adventure down the spectacular and scenic Zanskar river gorge.

During this trip we take you down the extremely isolated, remote and sheer Zanskar gorge with walls rising a few thousand feet out of the river bed and culminating on the mighty Indus river at the historic monastic conclave at Alchi. Certainly from beginning to the last truly lost horizon of our shrinking planet - Zanskar, the "land of white copper” this classic journey will be a trip of a lifetime.

Brahmaputra White Water Rafting

Experience an exhilarating and real style expedition in one of the world's greatest rivers, the Tsang Po River. Flowing quietly eastwards through Tibet, this river cuts the Great Himalaya and the Namche Barwa which is the highest unclimbed mountain in the world, before it enters Arunachal Pradesh. A few miles inside the line-of-control with China, it is known as Siang, or the Upper Brahmaputra.

The expedition starts with a ferryboat ride at Dibrugarh up the river to the plains of Pasighat, where the river actually enters India. After traveling through remote hillsides which are spread with tribal settlements and surrounded by dense rainforest with many species of ferns and orchids, it negotiates its big volume white water in an area, which is one of the most inaccessible locations in the world. A week long and 180 km long self contained run from Tuting to Pasighat through one of the most inaccessible regions in the world makes this one the most premier expeditions. It's a complete expedition that has everything from fabulous ferry ride up the river to two-day drive through rain forest and remote tribal villages. This is an expedition down on one of the worlds’ greatest rivers.

Be an expedition member on one of the top rafting expeditions in the world.

The most electrifying way to run the Upper Brahmaputra's (or Siang as it’s known in Arunachal Pradesh) is by experiencing legendary big drops, rapids, riffles, and strong eddies. This is 8-day river trip in 16 or 18 foot long hypalon paddle or oar-paddle combination rafts. Before launching from the put-in at Tuting, your guides will instruct you about the fundamentals of safety, paddling, white-water, and self-rescue. After spending first day plunging into a ten-mile stretch with some of the biggest rapids known as "Ningguing" (twice the size of "Lava Falls on the Colorado) and 'Pulsating Palsi", get ready to navigate down the Ningguing and Marmong gorges.

After this you will raft down big drops in the gorge including the 'Roaring Rikor" and "Zebra Rock" till the portage on "Toothfairy" rapid at Cherring. This is an expedition where you can scout "Moing Madness" and see huge 20 foot plus breakers within arms length. Floating down the vastness of this river, in this trip you will also spend days in past tribal settlements, run down "Karko Rapid" and can brace for the final drop at the "Pongging Punch".

This river changed forever after a flood occurred in June 2000, when the water level gone up to 150 feet, destroying everything in its path. Aquaterra Adventures was the first one after this natural disaster to run the first open fixed departure on this river in Nov-Dec 2002. Running a crew of over 50 this path breaking trip documented the river for all who care to join future expeditions. Since then, we are the only outfitter offering fixed departure trips on this river. We have the superior skills, equipment, guides and staff, who make this "real life expedition" an outstanding success.
